Welfare Justice

Welfare Justice: a place for sharing views, opinions and stories about the Government’s proposed welfare changes, particularly from the perspective of beneficiaries and others in the community who are living with, or will live with, the impacts of the changes.

Welfare Justice was born as an initiative of Church and Community groups who joined together in 2010 to run an Alternative Welfare Working Group to ensure that the voices of those on the beneficiary side of the counter were heard during the work of the Government Welfare Working Group. The work of the Alternative Welfare Working Group was completed in 2010.

The group released two reports in November and December 2010, which make a significant contribution to the ongoing debate about welfare changes.  They can be downloaded below, or are available in hard copy from the Caritas office caritas@caritas.org.nz
